Up, Up, and Away!

Leaving in less than 12 hours! I’m so busy feeding my new iPod though - it’s a race against time converting all my Grey’s Anatomy season 3, Heroes and Ugly Betty quickly! Ugh, still have to clean out my hard drives!

Enough geek - thanks to all those who showed up last night - I was very overwhelmed! :)
Let’s do it again when I return!

First stop: Taipei, Taiwan.

Everywhere you go, Always take the weather with you

Seriously?! What’s going on!? Temperatures in the U.K are about the same as what we’re having in Sydney atm. Sometimes LESS!! The max forecast seems to be 16 °C, minimum being 3 °C!!! It’s soooo cold… At least we have sun in Sydney. It’s gonna rain when I get there! What does this mean I should pack? I wasn’t going to take any big jackets…

Also, why has the Aussie $ just taken a dive? I need to change my currencies.

Pay rates of a Creative

I’ve heard horror stories of pay rates of $7/hour on average in Canada, working regular jobs.
With creative roles it’s closer to $11-15. This worries me. Sure the Canadian dollar is worth a slight more than the Australian dollar, but that still seems like a huge pay difference to here…

If people don’t mind me asking - what do you think the average pay for a young creative in print or photography would be?

Living costs in Canada however are substantially less.

thinking too far ahead

Ha!

I’m in such a mood, that I’m already mentally planning my next trip after this one! This May is officially the slowest month ever! When will it be the 28th already!!!? Agh! Finished paying off one of the last bits of my trip today. Finally! I just have a train pass to organise for Canada and the first bit of my Egyptian accommodation. Otherwise the rest is paid for, booked or will be played by ear. I’ve decided if I can get 2 meals a day into me, that’s heaps + being a stinge and never buying a thing. Postcards, yes, but that’s about it.

Oh and my hijab! Can’t wait!

So yeh, post-2007, I’d like to check out the Caribbean (just a couple of the islands… :P), the southern coast of Italy in one of those tiny sleepy Mediterranean towns, and Asia. Where will any of this money come from? Ha! A tree I will genetically cross breed with gold, oil and the US Dollar. It will grow to make me squillions and then I will sell the patents.

Other stuff:
- Whose James Morrison? Taking pics of him next…
- Listen to Samuel L Jackson on Black Snake Moan… awesome!

Sight-seeing in Sydney

I’ve been trying my hand at being a tourist in my own city, before I leave for overseas in a few months.

So far, I’ve (slept through Australia Day), been on ferry trips to Manly (with random yank sax players), beaching, doing rounds of The Rocks, Quay, MCA, Big Dayed Out, gone to the zoo (zoo, zoo, how about you, you, you?), and soon hopefully Pyrmont. I’m also armed with a new digital SLR (co-owned) with two noice lenses (which still need a major workout), so expect to see lots of photos!

Some friends and I went to Taranga Zoo yesterday and then scoffed ourselves silly with pots of mussels from The Belgian Beer Cafe. Glorious. I think the Chimps were my favourite - their sooo cute! There were two playful young ones, who were inseparable - complete with arms around each other the whole time! (Awwww). Also, saw a Leopard or Cat thing catch and eat live fish in it’s enclosure! Missed the seal show due to timetable confusion and too many prams being in the way. Saw elephants pee and poo at the same time (gross). The reptiles were also cool (I like pyhtons and bully turtles).

In comparison, Big Day Out was nowhere near as good. My highlights were Bob Evans, Red Riders, The Killers (during whom I ended up in some random corporate box…), I missed Muse and couldn’t see anything for The Violent Femmes, and kept missing Afra the incredible Beat Box. Very dissappointed with the Peaches and Herms set (I went to the side show and it’s perhaps one of the best I’ve seen in a long while. My friend even caught the drumstick!). I wished there were more small international bands like last year.

Sydney also sucks for BDO. Melbourne is a much better environment. I believe unless the acts are amazing in the next couple of years, 2007 was my last Big Day Out.
